So tell me a little bit about yourself, what have you been up to the past 12 months?
We are Park View, a indie rock collective from the north of England. We are based in Newcastle (more specifically Whitley Bay) and are currently working really hard to make the most of this one opportunity to do what we love most.
The last 12 months for us have seen us enjoying playing some of our best shows and getting involved in some great music events. We smashed out another sold out headliner last year taking on the Cluny2 and packing it out wall to wall. Alongside that we have also been in the studio for a number of months now perfecting our debut EP.
So you've just released your EP 'The Pretty Sounds' would you say the writing process has changed and developed since your earlier stuff?
Our writing process has always been based on the whole band writing together. That’s how we’ve always worked best. Someone presents a song and the whole group develops parts and pieces to go into it. For example I remember having the idea of writing ‘That Feeling’ (the opening track off the EP) but I couldn’t think of the right pattern to have behind it to keep it fast and punchy… which is where having a drummer comes in super handy. What has definitely changed over the years is us all being honest with each other and ourselves and being able to not only give constructive criticism but also to be able to take that feedback onboard.
What was the inspiration behind the EP?
This EP was inspired by the idea of having a collective project out forever. We definitely got to a point where we felt like we wanted to have something other than singles out there. Although it doesn’t seem to be the way the world works, for us it was a great experience for us and we are so glad we did it.
To someone who hasn't heard the EP yet, how would you describe it?
The Pretty Sounds EP - for someone who’s never heard it - is a collection of indie rock tunes for the summer. For those who are fans of The Smiths, Sam Fender, The DMAs and Arctic Monkeys we hope to scratch a different itch with each song in the EP.
Look it’s not gonna change your life, but it might make your drive to work a bit more cinematic :)
If 'The Pretty Sounds' could soundtrack any film or TV show, which one would you choose?
If our EP was the soundtrack to anything I think it would have to be something lighthearted. We aren’t a band who takes everything super serious so I couldn’t see us working with Christopher Nolan or anything (yet). Maybe a classic episode of The Office (US) like a CD in the back of the dinner party episode.
If any artist, dead or alive, could collaborate on 'The Pretty Sounds' who would you choose?
If anyone could collab onto The Pretty Sounds EP I think our lead guitarist would kill a man to get Bruce Springsteens input on any of the tracks.
So obviously you guys have quite a few gigs coming up and you’re playing Hardwick Festival in a couple months but what song are you most excited to play live?
Hardwick is gonna be loads of fun. I’m definitely most excited about showing people ‘Sleeping On Your Feet’ just as it seems to be one that sticks with people after the show. Something about belting out a song about love in our hometown seems to resonate with people and I absolutely love it.
Do you guys have any pre gig rituals?
Before a gig you will find us yapping peoples ears off catching up with everyone in the audience and watching our supports. If not we’re in the back doing our best to clear up some of the rider before the show starts.
You guys seem super busy this summer but what have you got coming for the rest of the year?
As a band we aren’t going through some big changes. All good and all exciting. We will be looking a little bit different but we will still be doing what we love. Playing good music with good friends to great audiences.
We’re hoping to bring a new edge to our music with some new tunes later in the year and we’re looking at working on some more really exciting projects.
